BLACK BESS DAVIDSON hails from Edinburgh, Scotland. Her family owned a successful inn and tavern called “The Hairy Scot”. She learned her craft and trade at her mother’s knee. At 16 she eloped with the youngest son of a Laird. Because he was the youngest son he had no inheritance—and had stolen gold and silver from his father’s treasury-the two were caught and the young man blamed the robbery on Bess. While imprisoned, Bess plied her charms upon her jailor, stole the keys, aye and escaped. She “charmed” a young lad, stole his clothes and sailed for Port Royal as a cabin boy. Once ashore, she found the “Bleeding Pig” tavern and work. Her skills and charms won the heart of the owner and he married her. She inherited the tavern upon his death. She knows her business well. Aye, she probably knows yours. She feeds the poor, and the people trust her. Pirates respect and admire her. Don’t cross her.
