Dammerascotta River Pirate Rendezvous - June 24
A day of family fun in midcoast Maine; pirates, cannons, treasure, games, costume contest, shanty's and more! The Damariscotta River Pirate Rendezvous promises a host of pirates both large and small to invade the Twin Villages in search of lost treasure on Saturday, June 24. “This is an event that is for and about children,” said Greg Latimer, event director of the Pirate Rendezvous, in a press release. “The event benefits three local non-profits that are child- and youth-oriented, and during the event hundreds of costumed children join the pirates to help find the hidden treasure.” The Damariscotta River Pirate Rendezvous opens at 10 a.m. with three in-town locations. A Pirate Bazaar located at the riverside Schooner Landing Restaurant & Marina in Damariscotta will feature themed retail stands and daylong music and entertainment. Children will be able to enjoy a variety of games at the Kid’s Pirate Camp on Water Street in Damariscotta.

THE 56TH ANNIVERSARY WINDJAMMER DAYS FESTIVAL. This wonderful event celebrates and honors a time before there were planes, trains, and automobiles and sailing ships were the best way to travel the world or transport goods long distances. Windjammers were the grandest of the merchant ships from the era, enormous sailing boats with several large masts designed to carry massive amounts of cargo from one continent to another. For centuries, the Boothbay Harbor Region has been a center of American shipping and shipbuilding, its harbor graced by elegant Windjammers as well as other commercial pleasure ships.
Fort Knox, Maine - July 14, 15 , 16
Join the professional Pirates of the Dark Rose for a day of swashbuckling sword fights, duels, cannon fire and pirate ship Piratesattack. The pirate ship "Must Roos" will let loose cannon fire on the Fort as she sails the waters of the Penobscot River, in search of booty. The festival will feature a pirate puppet show, pirate parade (all are encouraged to attend dressed in your best pirate attire), best dressed and most authentic sounding pirate contests. Regular Fort admission and a $3 per person event donation requested, because pirates love their gold! Those planning to spend the day may want to bring a lunch. The charge for the pirate ship sail is $25 per person for an hour cruise and cannon firing. The ship leaves from the Bucksport Town dock and tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 469-6553. Advanced purchase is recommended as the ship can only carry six passengers. Note: Cruise tickets are non-refundable. People are encouraged to carpool to the Pirate Day events at the Fort due to limited parking.
Union Fair - August 26
A large family fair famous for the annual State of Maine Wild Blueberry Festival. Large midway, crafts, animal pull events, harness racing. The Pirates of the Dark Rose bring their own brand of family fun and Invade Union Maine with their Puppet Show and Kids Pirate Games. Fun for all ages. There will be contests, live music, harness racing, the Wine Pavilion, fireworks, the Maine Wild Blueberry Queen Coronation, 2 Demolition Derbys, exhibits, food, demonstrations & shows, the Midway, 4-H, Laser Tag, lots of food, the Matthews Museum, Dock Dogs, the pulling and of course, PIRATES at the 146th Union Fair!

From the great age of sail when coasting schooners were launched in the harbor, through the birth of the windjammer business in the 1930s, to today’s windjammer fleet and elegant yachts, sailing ships have always defined our lovely, vibrant community.
